Guest Speaker For Your Church
Why Would You Even Want One?
As a pastor with 15 years of experience behind the pulpit, I understand the need for a break now and then. Allowing a guest speaker into your church once in a while can be a big help.
Between chasing after the youth group, leading the worship team, coordinating the holiday festivities, and working a 9-5, it can be real easy to pour out. It can be even easier to forget to sit back and let God pour back in for you.
And honestly, that’s just the busy schedule of a youth pastor! Your full time pastor has even more on their plate, and even fewer people they feel comfortable confiding in.
All the beautiful church events that build the rest of us up and remind us of everything God does in our lives? Honestly, those are just even more work for a pastor than the regular weeks. They don’t get Christmas or Easter off the way others do.
But, it’s difficult for a pastor to step down – even temporarily. Between feeling the pressure of delivering God’s message as they are called, and the suspicion of whether or not a guest preacher is actually preaching The Gospel, or is instead going to preach their own agenda disguised as Gospel; it can be difficult to get someone on the schedule.
Even God took an entire day to rest, though, and we’re all so much weaker than He is. That’s where hiring a guest speaker to fill in for your church for a week or two can help.
Take Your Day Of Rest
I am happy to answer any questions you have about my statement of faith so we can see if I’m a good temporary fit for your pulpit. You can relax, knowing that I am filling in while the Holy Spirit fills your cup back up.
You can even feel free to sit back with the rest of the congregation if you’d like. Some pastors wouldn’t. They know they would be expected to facilitate the service in other ways. That isn’t really a day off for them, it’s just a lighter work load. Not really what we’re going for, right?
But, it’s perfectly natural – good, even – to worry about inviting the wrong person into the fold. I believe in continually growing myself in Him, every day. I have a wife and a young daughter to lead and to love as Christ loved the church. There is too much at stake to allow myself to grow stagnant or to compromise my faith for the easy or popular path.
