The Lobby
From Church Lobby to PVP Lobby
Fatherhood keeps me very busy these days (our daughter was born mid-2023) but I still find time to keep up online.
We have a live stream broadcast that we run two or three times a week across multiple platforms. We also put out almost daily short-form content and try to put out regular YouTube Videos as well.
The focus of these broadcasts and videos are often not Bible-Centric. Just nerds, having fun being nerds. There’s plenty of people who go live on twitch or upload videos on YouTube of them praying and reading the Bible, building strong communities around those things. That’s awesome, and we love that.
Gearing Up
My approach is more to just be a nerd with fellow nerds, and earn the opportunities to tell them about Jesus. Most people react in shock when they find out I’m a former Pastor, saying things like “I didn’t know Pastors liked Video Games”.
But there lies the deep value in where God has led me and my little family. God gets associated with a passion that has typically been condemned in traditional Christian settings. No one feels pressured or intimidated or like they can’t be around until they’re worthy.
I didn’t have to drag them kicking and screaming into God’s House. I just brought Him with me into theirs. When we’ve gotten to know each other a bit, they’re comfortable enough to ask me questions about Him, and suddenly I have the chance to speak to someone I know is ready to hear.
That gives us a huge opportunity to show that following Jesus isn’t just for monks. It’s for nerds too.
I am also blessed to be able to keep up with my passion for preaching. Being a regular guest speaker at a handful of churches is huge. I get to share the message from God’s Word. But also? I can share what God is doing for someone He created to be a nerd.
If you’re interested in having a nerd come speak at your service, camp, or event, simply reach out and ask.
